I. Images on the Web

WHEN PICTURES DON'T APPEAR...

  1. WHY DO OTHER PICTURES NOT SHOW UP?

Also applies to form elements, such as input boxes.

Unless you have a card with a Flash image (see #5), not seeing a picture usually means that all the dara from your card has not fully downloaded to your own computer.

Pictures (and form elements) are the last data to load, and since data downloads in separate "packets" vs in one single long stream, sometimes there is a period of time before a picture downloads. especially if your online service provider is busy. When AOL is busy, for example, AOL users, may have a long wait before the picture shows up. WAITING is usually the technique that brings the image into view (provided your internet service provider does not "time you out" while you are waiting.)

See HOW CAN YOU SEE THE PICTURE IF IT DOESN'T APPEAR below for tips.

  2. ANIMATIONS: WHY SOME PEOPLE DON'T SEE THEM? If your Internet Service Provider or the internet in general is busy, you may need to WAIT a while for the image to appear. Animations take time to download and usually download after the text. Awesome Cards uses animated "gif" images, which is simply a specific file type generally used for animations on the World Wide Web. Whether you can see these animations depends on the software you use to view the WWW (Web browser). Most WWW browsers have the ability to display "animated gifs". But some older ones will show only the first or last frame in the animation.

  3. HOW TO STOP ANIMATIONS? Click the STOP button on the tool bar near the top of your WWW browser window.

  4. HOW TO RESTART ANIMATIONS? Click the RELOAD (or REFRESH) button on the tool bar near the top of your WWW browser window.

  5. FLASH IMAGES?

Flash Viewer? Flash images are high-quality animated images (much more elaborate and visually rich than traditional Internet animated "gifs") but they do require that your Internet Explorer, Netscape or other Internet browser have a Flash Player (viewing software), available free from Macromedia. Otherwise you cannot see Flash images. Sometimes a sender of an Awesome card may send one of our Flash cards to someone who does not have a Flash Viewer or Player – or the most current version of the player. If so, you can click here to download the viewer free from Marcromedia.

Fast Computer? Because Flash images are elaborate, you also need a newer, faster computer (performing best with a Pentium II 400 Mhrtz processor or better) so that you can see the Flash animaation at its intended speed.

Better Images – More Time to Download. The more complex and interesting the animation, the longer it takes for all the image data to download to your own computer for viewing. Thanks for waiting.

HOW CAN YOU SEE THE PICTURE IF IT DOESN'T APPEAR?

  1. INTERNET BASICS: Try waiting for both the picture and the full page to download before scrolling down the page, as scrolling sometimes interferes with internet data downloading. You will get slower responses if the Internet or your Internet Service Provider or our site is busy. Generally our site performs quickly but may be slower than usual on major holidays.

  2. BROWSER TIPS: If you do not see the image after waiting for all data to download, click the " Refresh " (Internet Explorer) or "Reload" (Netscape) button at the top of your Internet browser to call for the data to download again. (Wait first, though, as this will stop your previous request so it takes longer.)

  3. CACHE: Lastly you might try clearing the cache, which again is an option on the menu of most browsers. Browsers cache or store WWW pages you visit to make browsing the WWW faster for you, but caching can cause two problems. It can make you miss any changes or additions or, in your case, the picture, by showing you a page you are re-visiting just as it showed it before and then stored it.

Also when the cache is full, apparently it can also cause pictures not to load.

II. TIPS ON PRINTING A CARD

BRIEF HOW-TO
Use the PRINT command on your WWW browser software to print. (For most browsers, such as Netscape, PRINT is in the FILE menu.)

PRINT QUALITY
You are welcome to print your Awesome Cyber Card (see copyright info below), but PRINT QUALITY IS LIMITED because graphics are at 72 dpi for good viewing quality at fast speeds. (A 300 dpi image file, needed for good printing, would take 9 times longer to view.)

WWW BACKGROUNDS DON'T PRINT
Also please note that backgrounds on WWW pages do not print unless you have the option to print background colors selected on your Internet Explorer or Netscape browser. (Therefore cards with dark backgrounds and white text do not print unless you have a WWW browser, such as Netscape, which allows you to change the color of the text.)

MORE HELP
Printing any www page (including your card) is controlled by your own software for browsing the www and your own software that controls your printer (print driver). Unfortunately, we have no control over printing and no way assist you with printing problems. We have put all the information we have on printing on our print help page. Should you need assistance with printing, please contact the technical support departments of the companies whose software you are using.

For more information on printing, see WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE PRINTING A CARD
